Photographing a Puppy Through its First Year

Introduction

If you're lucky enough to have a puppy in your life, then you'll know that they grow up way too fast! Those first few months are just a blur of cuddles, walks and mischief, and before you know it they're all grown up. That's why it's so important to document those early days - so you can look back and remember all the precious moments.

As far as pet photography goes, Puppy photography is by far my favourite photo shoot. There's nothing quite like capturing all that innocence and playfulness on camera. Whether it's interspersed with serious cuddle sessions or chaotic playtime, or puppies just having a good time, every moment is special.

A visual record of a puppy's first year, starting from from the first time they were allowed out into the woods, through to their first birthday looking all grown up!

Within my Puppy First Year Package, my aim is to capture the unique personality of the puppy and freezing those 'puppy dog eyes' that always seem to melt our hearts! Which as a pet photographer, is the key to a perfect puppy photo shoot!

When to book: It's best to book your puppy photo shoot when your pup is between 3 and 4 months old. At this age they're usually have settled into their home well and are full of personality! Of course, every puppy is different so if you have a specific idea in mind for the shoot (for example, if you want to capture them playing fetch in the park) feel free to get in touch and we can work out a time that suits.

What to expect:

My approach to puppy photography is natural and relaxed. I want to capture your puppy's personality and character in photographs that you will cherish forever. A puppy photo shoot is a fun, relaxed affair. The photo shoot itself will be very informal - I like to let the pups lead the way and just follow their lead, capturing natural moments as they happen, after all, we want them to have fun too! This means that no two shoots are ever the same, which is part of the charm! I will usually take a mix of posed and candid shots, so there's something for everyone.

Before the shoot:

It's important to make sure your pup is well-rested before their big day! A tired puppy is not going to be very cooperative (trust me, I know from experience!). Try to avoid any strenuous exercise in the few hours leading up to the shoot, and if possible, take them for a nice long walk beforehand to tire them out a little.

What to Expect

My approach to puppy photography is natural and relaxed. I want to capture your puppy's personality and character in photographs that you will cherish forever.

During the shoot:

I will take direction from you as to what kind of shots you are looking for, but ultimately it's up to the puppy! I like to let them have a good sniff around exploring the new environment and get comfortable with me before we start taking photos. Once they're settled, we can start capturing some beautiful memories.

Whenever I am photographing dogs, I take, hundreds of pictures, this is to ensure that the images that we release will be amazing images capturing the dog's personality through eye contact, using both posed shots and action shots and always using natural light.

If you would like to include some people in with your pictures, then that OK as well

During the shoot you will of course see me using my camera. As a pet photographer I normally shoot with a zoom lens. This allows me to be detached from the dog and letting the puppy

After the shoot:

All that's left is to choose your favourite photos! I will send you an online gallery of edited images to choose what you consider to be the best photographs from, and we can go from there.

During the Shoot

I like to let them have a good sniff around exploring the new environment and get comfortable with me before we start taking photos.
